Rotary Natural Birch Veneer: Engineered for Strength and Character
Rotary natural birch pairs heartwood and sapwood in one veneer face, so every sheet carries its own character.
- Raw Color- Cream or light brown tinged with red, nearly white sapwood.
- Grain/Appearance- Heartwood is very apparent in rotary natural birch and tends to be a light reddish brown to brown and has a grain with a very wavy appearance and a fine, even texture. Plain sliced features slightly wavy to classic cathedral pattern. Low natural luster.
- Characteristics- Heavy, very strong.

Rotary Cut vs Plain Sliced Birch: What Is the Difference?
Rotary cutting peels a continuous veneer sheet around the log, similar to unrolling a roll of paper. Plain slicing cuts straight through the log’s center instead.
- Rotary cut: Bold, wavy grain with more movement from sheet to sheet. Yields more usable veneer per log, which tends to lower cost.
- Plain sliced: Repeating pattern that’s easier to match door to door. A common choice when a project calls for more consistency.
Color is a separate choice from the cut. Natural birch, shown on this page, keeps both heartwood and sapwood for a warmer, varied tone. White birch uses sapwood only, for a lighter, more even color, available on our Architectural surface materials page.
