AFD-20: 20 Minute Fire Rated Door
The AFD-20 door features a particleboard or structural composite core, built to a 20-minute fire rating and listed by Warnock Hersey International. It's available up to 4'0" x 9'0" as a single door, or 8'0" x 9'0" as a pair.
AFD-45: 45 Minute Fire Rated Door
The AFD-45 door is built on a Response Engineered Core (REC) or Agrifiber core, rated for 45 minutes of fire protection and listed by Warnock Hersey International. Single doors run up to 4'0" x 10'0", with double-egress pairs up to 8'0" x 8'0".
AFD-60: 60 Minute Fire Rated Door
The AFD-60 door uses a mineral core built for 60 minutes of fire protection, listed by Warnock Hersey International. It's available up to 4'0" x 9'0" as a single door, or 8'0" x 8'0" as a pair.
AFD-90: 90 Minute Fire Rated Door
The AFD-90 door is built on the same mineral core as the AFD-60, rated for a full 90 minutes of fire protection in high-risk areas and listed by Warnock Hersey International. It ships up to 4'0" x 9'0" as a single door, or 8'0" x 8'0" as a pair.
Vision Lites in Fire-Rated Doors
Vision lite size and placement depend on your door’s fire rating and core type, with different rules for each.
- 20-minute doors: cutouts up to 1,296 square inches, 36 inches wide maximum.
- 45-minute doors: 1,080 to 1,296 square inches, depending on whether the core is REC or Agrifiber.
- 60- and 90-minute doors (mineral core): 100 to 1,344 square inches depending on configuration, with lites kept 4 to 5 inches from the door’s edge.
Every vision lite also needs the right glazing. Ceramic glass rated to keep temperature rise under 250°F, framed with an intumescent seal, sized to match the hardware you choose.

How to Choose Between a 20, 45, 60 or 90-Minute Door
The right fire rating for a door comes from the wall or partition it’s installed in. Building codes tie every fire-rated opening to the fire-resistance rating of the assembly around it. Start by checking your project’s life safety plans, or your local building code, for the rating required at that specific opening.
In general, 20-minute doors are the most common call for corridors and smoke barriers. Their job is slowing smoke and fire spread, not sealing off a room completely. 45- and 60-minute doors typically go into shaft enclosures and stairwells built to match that rating. 90-minute doors are reserved for openings that need the highest level of protection, like walls between separate buildings or high-hazard areas.
If your project drawings already call out a rating, an architect or code consultant has already done that work for you. Matching the door to the spec is what matters. When the rating isn’t clear, or a project spans multiple jurisdictions, confirm with your local authority having jurisdiction (AHJ) before placing an order.
